District Export Council

District Export Councils (DECs) are organizations of leaders from the local business community, appointed by successive United States Secretaries of Commerce, whose knowledge of international business provides a source of professional advice for local firms engaged in international trade. District Export Councils contribute leadership and international trade expertise to complement the United States Commercial Service's export promotion efforts through counseling businesses on the exporting process and conducting trade education and community outreach. District Export Councils operate within a nationwide network and make significant contributions to America's international competitiveness. They are a diverse group of volunteer international trade professionals who meet for plenary sessions addressing international issues and awareness. District Export Councils members are exporters of manufactured products and services, providers of export support services (accounting, finance, legal, transportation, etc.), academia, and leaders of non-profit organizations and state and local governments.

The National District Export Council provides support and guidance for fulfillment of the mission of the District Export Councils and facilitates communication between DECs, between DECs and the U.S. Department of Commerce, and between DECs and the international business community and policymakers.

The North Texas District Export Council is the local District Export Council for the North Texas region. One of four Texas DECs, the North Texas DEC contributes leadership and international trade expertise to complement the export promotion efforts of the North Texas U.S. Export Assistance Center through counseling North Texas businesses on the exporting process and conducting trade education and community outreach. The primary objectives of the North Texas DEC are to educate the North Texas community about free trade and its benefits, and include "how to" education to promote exports by companies in the North Texas area.
