Intellectual Property Protection & Licensing
One of the most important assets a firm has is its intellectual property. A
failure to protect IP assets will lead to lost revenue. IP protection can be
achieved in a variety of ways including governmental registration, contractual
arrangements, and regulatory enforcement. In addition to using IP assets
internally to generate revenue, IP licensing and franchise relationships are
additional methods to earn a return on a firm's IP. It is also essential when
contemplating expansion into new markets, and particularly foreign markets, to
protect IP assets prior to entering that market. Legal counsel
must not only be familiar with the ways a firm's IP assets can be
protected in a specified market, but must also understand and be able to
assist in formulating that firm's IP strategy.
